Report carbon emissions and make meaningful progress to reduce carbon emissions - or face penalties.

IMPACTED PROPERTIES

  • Buildings over 25,000 s.f.
  • Two or more buildings on the same tax lot with a combined area exceeding 50,000 s.f
  • Two or more buildings owned by a condominium association, governed by the same board, exceeding 50,000 s.f.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Sets emission limits for buildings over 25,000 s.f.
  • Annual reporting starts May 1, 2025
  • Caps get more stringent over time
  • Building upgrades may be required if over GHG limits.

PENALTIES

  • Excess emissions: $268 per metric ton of CO2 above the limit
  • Failure to submit report: $0.50 per sq. ft. per month until compliance
  • False reporting: $500,000 or more
